Container-drayage

Fragen
Klare Antworten
Which terminal will my container be at in PortMiami?
It follows your booking rather than your preference. CMA CGM and Maersk land at SFCT, Seaboard's own line lands at Seaboard, and much of the rest lands at POMTOC. Port Everglades, the Port of Palm Beach, the Miami River and the Hialeah rail ramps work the same way: the line decides where the box sits, not the trucker and not you. Send the container number and the steamship line with the request, and the terminal, the gate requirements and the appointment get worked out from there, including which name the gate wants when the paperwork and the driver disagree.
What is the difference between live unload and drop and pick?
Live unload means the driver stays while you unload, and detention starts once the free window is up. Drop and pick means the container is left with you and collected later, which usually costs less if you have the yard space to hold it and the time to work at your own pace. Live is the right answer when you have a crew and a door ready the moment the truck arrives. Drop is the right answer when you do not, or when unloading is going to take longer than an hour or two. It is your call, and it changes the price.
Do I need my own chassis for a drayage move?
No, the chassis comes with the move. Over 800 are yard-staged rather than drawn from the terminal pool, so a pool shortage at the terminal is not what holds your box up. Appointments are the harder constraint: at SFCT and at nearly everything at Port Everglades a slot has to exist before a truck is any use at all. King Ocean runs no appointment system, and Seaboard at PortMiami runs until 7 during the week and opens Saturday until 2, which is worth knowing when a free day lands on a weekend.
How far is the warehouse from PortMiami and Port Everglades?
The Hialeah Gardens warehouse sits roughly 20 road miles from PortMiami and about 25 from Port Everglades, with the Hialeah rail ramps 5 to 8 miles away. That is what makes a pre-pull, a transload or a devan a same-day job instead of a cross-county trip: a container collected in the morning can be emptied and the empty returned before the terminal closes. Five acres of yard and over 50 dock doors sit at the end of that run, which is where the box waits if you are not ready for it yet.
Do you pull containers off the Miami River and the rail ramps too?
Yes. All three seaports and every terminal inside them, plus the Miami River berths and the Hialeah rail ramps. The ramps are the closest of the lot, 5 to 8 miles from the yard, which makes an intermodal pull one of the shortest runs on the board and an easy pairing with a transload at the same dock. A river berth works differently from a seaport terminal, so send the berth name along with the container number and the line and the rest is worked out before a truck is committed.
