Los Angeles to Miami

Shipping from Los Angeles to Miami?

Los Angeles to Florida is the other half of the same weekly lane and it has shippers of its own. Manufactured goods, consumer products, retail and e-commerce stock, machinery and returns leave the basin and the port cities heading east all year. Send the Los Angeles pickup and the Florida delivery and the eastbound load is planned from its own pickup window and quoted on its own.

Where in Los Angeles

Miami to Los Angeles, city by city

The lane runs Miami to Los Angeles, Long Beach, Vernon, Commerce, City of Industry, Santa Fe Springs, Carson, Torrance, Compton. If your city is not on that list it is still on the lane: those are where the freight clusters, not the edge of where the truck goes.

Where Los Angeles freight actually lands

The industrial belt southeast of downtown takes most of it. Vernon, Commerce, City of Industry and Santa Fe Springs sit within a few miles of each other and hold the warehouses and food plants a Florida trailer is usually aimed at. Carson, Torrance and Compton run south from there toward the water, and the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach sit at the bottom of it, with LAX to the west.

Westbound the trailer usually carries retail and e-commerce stock, packaging, fixtures, building materials, machinery and parts, plus freight that landed at a South Florida port and is headed for a west coast distribution center. Eastbound it is manufactured goods, consumer products, retail replenishment and returns aimed at the Florida market.

How the run to Los Angeles goes

About 2,750 road miles and five days. Getting out of Florida takes the first of them, because almost everything leaving the state runs north through a narrow corridor before it turns west, so the first night usually falls in north Florida or south Georgia rather than somewhere that feels further along. After that it is I-10 nearly the whole way, and Los Angeles arrives from the east.

Driver hours set the shape of it. A driver may drive 11 hours inside a 14 hour window under the federal hours-of-service rules, which is about 550 to 600 miles a day, and 2,750 miles divided by that is five days of driving. The last stretch is the expensive part. The final fifty miles into the basin can cost more of a morning than the five hundred before them, and receivers here work to appointments on docks that are often old and tight.

A trailer every week, each direction

This is a dedicated lane and it runs every week in both directions. A trailer leaves Florida for Los Angeles each week and one comes back. Booking onto that week means a firm departure instead of waiting for enough freight to point a truck west, and the pickup can be anywhere in Florida rather than only Miami.

A full trailer takes the week on its own. A partial shares it with other freight going the same way, which is the sensible answer for a few pallets. The return runs as a lane in its own right, so an eastbound load is planned from its own pickup window rather than treated as a seat on an empty truck coming home.

What to send for a rate on this lane

Pickup and delivery addresses, the window at each end, the weight, how many pallets or pieces and how they are packaged, and what the commodity is. A 53 ft dry van holds 26 standard pallet positions and about 45,000 lb, and stands 13 ft 6 in on the road, so on heavy or tall freight the numbers settle the trailer rather than preference.

Say what the delivery dock looks like. Industrial addresses in the basin and around the ports take a 53 ft trailer as a matter of course, and some older streets inside the city do not. If the freight arrives by sea, say that too: stripping it at the Hialeah Gardens dock before the long leg returns the container and ends per diem.

A full truckload is built here first, in Hialeah Gardens. Palletize, consolidate, wrap and load out of the warehouse, so what rolls out is one clean sealed trailer instead of a half-loaded guess. If you are shipping loose freight rather than a container, this is where it becomes a load.

How long is the drive from Miami to Los Angeles?

Five days over about 2,750 road miles with a solo driver. A driver is allowed 11 hours of driving inside a 14 hour window under the federal hours-of-service rules, which works out to roughly 550 to 600 miles a day, and the arithmetic gives five. Weather across Texas and the desert, and the crawl through the final fifty miles into the basin, can move the arrival by a day.

Is there a weekly truck from Miami to Los Angeles?

Yes, and it runs both ways. This is a dedicated lane: a trailer leaves Florida for Los Angeles every week and one comes back every week. That means a departure you can book against rather than a truck that waits for enough freight to justify the trip. Tell us the week you need and the pickup goes on that trailer, from anywhere in Florida. There is a truck in the area every day.

Can a delivery be made at the ports of Los Angeles or Long Beach?

Yes, and the port area is built for a 53 ft trailer, so the trailer is rarely the problem. The gate and the appointment are. Terminals and the warehouses feeding them run on booked windows, and a driver arriving without one waits or comes back. Give the exact address, the window and any gate reference when you ask for the rate so the last day is planned around it.

Can a few pallets ride the weekly trailer instead of taking a whole truck?

Yes. A partial shares the weekly trailer with other freight pointed at Los Angeles, and for anything under about half a floor that is usually the better answer. Past that point a full truckload often works out better anyway, because the freight is never handled between the two docks and the trailer is sealed at loading. Send the pallet count and weight and you get a straight answer on which.
