Pallet storage

Somewhere to put twelve pallets for three weeks. Storage billed by the pallet and by the day rather than by the square foot and by the year, close enough to the ports that getting them in and out is not a cross-county trip.

Pallet storage

Why pallets and not square feet

Renting space means paying for a rectangle whether or not it is full, for as long as the lease runs. Pallet storage means paying for the pallets that are actually there, on the days they are actually there.

For anything seasonal, anything overflowing, anything waiting on a customer or a permit, the second shape is simply cheaper and it is the reason this is a separate thing from warehousing rather than a smaller version of it.

The handling is priced separately from the storage on purpose. Freight that comes in once and goes out once should not pay the same as freight that is picked at ten times a week, and rolling both into one rate hides which of those you are.

What racked actually means for your freight

Racked means each pallet has a position rather than being stacked on top of another pallet on the floor. It costs slightly more and it is worth it for most freight: nothing is crushed by what was put above it, anything can be pulled without moving three others first, and a count is a count rather than an estimate.

Floor stacking is fine for uniform, robust, slow-moving goods and it is the cheaper answer when that is genuinely what you have. It is the wrong answer for mixed cartons, for anything fragile, and for anything you will need to reach in a hurry.

Whichever it is, the pallets are counted in and counted out, and what arrived is photographed if there is any question about its condition.

The part that matters if it came out of a container

Storage close to the port and storage far from it are different products even at the same price per pallet.

A container has to be emptied and returned while per diem runs. If the freight is going into storage anyway, doing that within minutes of the terminal means the box goes back the same day and the pallets go straight onto a rack. Doing it an hour inland means paying for a longer trip, a longer per diem clock, and the same unloading twice over if anything has to come back toward the port later.

It is also the difference between storage as a plan and storage as an emergency. A last free day arriving before a receiver is ready is the most common reason freight ends up here, and it is a cheaper problem when the pallets are already close to where the box came from.

Getting them back out

Pallets leave whole, or they leave as something else. Whole means a truck comes and takes them. Something else means they get restacked, rewrapped, relabelled or split before they go, which is ordinary work here and is quoted separately from the storage.

The dock runs first come, first served, without an appointment system, and there are cutoffs for a truck to be turned the same day. Both of those are on the warehouse page, and both are worth reading before sending a driver.

Tell us roughly how many pallets, roughly how long, and whether they arrive on a truck or in a container, and the answer comes back with the handling separated from the storage rather than blended into one number.

How is pallet storage billed in Miami?

By the pallet and by the day, rather than by the square foot and by the year. You pay for the pallets that are actually on the rack, on the days they are actually there, which is why this is a separate thing from leasing space and not a smaller version of it. The handling is kept separate from the storage on purpose: freight that arrives once and leaves once should not pay the same as freight picked at ten times a week, and blending the two into a single number hides which of those you are.

What is the difference between racked and floor-stacked pallet storage?

Racked means every pallet has its own position, so nothing is crushed by what was put on top of it, any pallet can be pulled without moving three others first, and a count is a count rather than an estimate. It costs slightly more and it is the right answer for mixed cartons, for anything fragile and for anything you will need in a hurry. Floor stacking is cheaper and perfectly fine for uniform, robust, slow-moving goods. Say which one the freight really is and it gets stored that way.

Can pallets that came out of a container go straight into storage?

That is the most common way freight arrives here. The box comes off the terminal, gets devanned at the dock, and the pallets go onto a rack in the same building, which means the empty container goes back the same day instead of riding around while per diem runs. Doing the same thing at a warehouse an hour inland costs a longer trip, a longer per diem clock, and often the same unloading twice if anything has to come back toward the port later.

Are pallets counted and checked when they arrive?

Yes. Pallets are counted in and counted out, and what arrives is photographed if there is any question at all about its condition. That record is worth more than it sounds. A discrepancy found on the dock while the truck or the container is still there is something that can be settled straight away, and the same discrepancy noticed six weeks later on a shelf is an argument nobody wins. Send the packing list ahead of the freight and the receiving is checked against it rather than against a guess.

How quickly can pallets be released back out?

Pallets leave whole or they leave as something else. Whole means a truck comes and takes them. Something else means restacked, rewrapped, relabelled or split before they go, which is ordinary work here and is quoted apart from the storage. The dock runs 8 to 5 Monday to Friday, first come first served with no appointment system, and a release in by 4pm ships the same day. A driver sent without those cutoffs in mind is a driver who waits.
