Where in California

Miami to California, city by city

The lane runs Miami to Los Angeles, Long Beach, Inland Empire (Ontario, Fontana, San Bernardino и Riverside), San Diego, Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Bakersfield, Stockton. If your city is not on that list it is still on the lane: those are where the freight clusters, not the edge of where the truck goes.

Hub by hub

6 California hubs, each a dedicated lane every week

A trailer leaves Florida for each of these hubs every week and one comes back, and there is a truck in California every day. Each has its own page with its miles, its days and what the delivery there is like.

Where California freight actually goes

Los Angeles, Long Beach and the Inland Empire warehouses out through Ontario, Fontana, San Bernardino and Riverside take most of it, with San Diego to the south and Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, Fresno and Bakersfield up the valley. Those are where the freight clusters rather than the only places the lane reaches.

Going west it tends to be retail and e-commerce stock, packaging, fixtures, building materials, machinery and parts, along with freight that landed at a South Florida port and is headed for a distribution center on the other coast. Coming east it tends to be manufactured goods, produce out of the Central Valley in a reefer, retail replenishment and returns aimed at the Florida market. Both halves are real lanes with their own shippers.

How the run to California actually goes

About 2,700 road miles and five to six days, and the first part of that is spent getting out of Florida. Almost everything leaving the state runs north through a narrow corridor before it turns, so the first night usually falls in north Florida or south Georgia rather than at a state line that feels further along. Driver hours set the rest of it, and weather across the southwest can move the arrival a day either way.

The far end is the other half of the schedule. A receiver with a firm appointment window has to be planned backwards from that window, and an appointment missed by an hour is frequently an appointment lost for a day. A drop trailer suits a dock that loads on its own time; a live load keeps the truck standing while it is worked, which is cheaper only if the dock really moves. We run it both directions, and each direction is planned and priced as its own load.

What to send for a rate on this lane

Pickup and delivery addresses, the window at each end, the weight, how many pallets or pieces and how they are packaged, and what the commodity is. A 53 ft dry van carries about 45,000 lb and a reefer in the same footprint about 44,000, so on heavy freight the weight settles the trailer rather than preference. Say if the load needs temperature control, or an open deck because it loads from the side or the top.

If the freight arrives by sea, say that too. Coming out of the ocean box at the Hialeah Gardens dock before the long leg returns the container, ends per diem, and stops 2,700 miles of road paying container and chassis rates. It can usually be restacked to fill a trailer better than it filled the box, and that is where most of the saving comes from.

The dry van on this lane

A 53 ft dry van is the trailer this lane runs on: about 52 ft of usable floor, 26 standard 40 by 48 in pallet positions in two rows, roughly 45,000 lb of legal cargo, sealed doors at the back and a floor built for a forklift. Freight that fits through a door and does not need a temperature belongs in it, which is most of what moves between Florida and California: retail and e-commerce stock, packaging, fixtures, building materials, machinery on pallets.

The trailer is sealed at loading and the seal number rides on the bill of lading, so what arrives in Los Angeles is what left Miami. On a 2,700 mile run that matters more than on a local one: the freight is not handled between the two docks, which is the plainest argument for a full truckload over anything that goes through a terminal. A reefer trailer runs the same lane when the freight needs a set point, and a flatbed or step deck when it loads from the side or the top.

Solo or team: what actually sets the days

A solo driver is allowed 11 hours of driving inside a 14 hour window, then 10 hours off, under the federal hours-of-service rules, which works out to about 550 to 600 miles a day on this kind of road. That is where five to six days comes from: 2,700 miles divided by a legal day, not a schedule anyone chose. Weather across Texas and the desert, and traffic getting into Los Angeles or across the Bay, move it by a day either way.

A team, two drivers sharing the cab, keeps the truck moving while one sleeps and covers the same run in about three days. It costs more, because it is two people, and it is worth it when the delivery window is fixed or the freight is expensive to have on the road. Say which the load needs at the request stage. Most freight on this lane runs solo; anything promised to a receiver on a particular morning is a team conversation.

The road west, and why winter rarely stops it

Out of Miami the truck runs the Turnpike or I-95 north to I-10, then I-10 west across the Panhandle, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona to Los Angeles, close to 2,400 miles of a single interstate. Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton and Sacramento are reached up SR 99 or I-5 from the south; the Bay Area up I-5 and across, or up US 101 from Los Angeles. San Diego turns off I-10 at the far end.

I-10 is the southernmost crossing of the country, which is the quiet advantage of this lane: the mountain passes that close I-40 and I-80 in winter are not on it. What does slow it is West Texas wind, summer heat that pushes reefers but not dry vans, and the last fifty miles into Los Angeles, which can cost more of a morning than the previous five hundred.

California to Miami: the loads that come east

The return direction is a lane of its own, with its own shippers, and it is planned that way. Manufactured goods and consumer products out of the Los Angeles basin, e-commerce stock out of the Inland Empire warehouses, technology and components out of the Bay Area, and retail replenishment aimed at the Florida market all run east every week. Produce out of the Central Valley runs too, in a reefer rather than a dry van.

A California pickup is quoted as its own load on its own rate, never as a discount because a trailer happens to be empty in Ontario. If you have freight moving both ways, send both sides at once: a westbound delivery and an eastbound pickup planned as one turn is the cheapest version of this lane for everybody, and it only works when both are known before the truck leaves Florida.

Перед выездом из Hialeah Gardens

Один склад в Hialeah Gardens, более 50 погрузочных доков

A full truckload is built here first, in Hialeah Gardens. Palletize, consolidate, wrap and load out of the warehouse, so what rolls out is one clean sealed trailer instead of a half-loaded guess. If you are shipping loose freight rather than a container, this is where it becomes a load.

Вопросы

Прямые ответы

Do you deliver to Los Angeles and the Bay Area on the same run?

Yes, we deliver to both, usually as two loads rather than on one trailer. Los Angeles and Oakland are the better part of a day apart, and a second stop that far along adds a day to the load rather than an hour. If both cities need freight, it is generally two loads, quoted separately. Where a second stop is close enough to make sense, inside the Inland Empire or between San Jose and Oakland, say so at the request stage so the stop is planned rather than discovered.

Can Miami to California run in a reefer?

Yes. It is the same lane with a set point on it and a unit running the whole way. A 53 ft reefer carries about 44,000 lb against a dry van's 45,000 in the same footprint, so heavy freight that just fits a van does not automatically fit a reefer. Send the set point, whether it runs continuous or on cycle, and the weight, and the trailer question gets settled before anything is booked.

Does the Inland Empire count as Los Angeles on this lane?

For the road it is close, for the clock it is not always. Ontario, Fontana, San Bernardino and Riverside sit east of the port cities and a load crossing Los Angeles to reach them can lose most of a morning to traffic. It is the same lane and the same truck, but the delivery address decides the appointment, so give the actual dock address rather than the metro name.

How many days is a truckload from Miami to Los Angeles?

About five days with a solo driver, over roughly 2,750 road miles. A driver may drive 11 hours in a 14 hour window under the federal hours-of-service rules, which is about 550 to 600 miles a day on I-10, and 2,750 divided by that is five days of driving. A team of two drivers covers it in about three. Neither is a scheduled service: weather across Texas and the desert and the last stretch into Los Angeles can add a day, so a delivery promised to the morning is a team conversation.

How long does Miami to San Francisco or the Bay Area take?

Five to six days solo, over about 3,050 road miles to Oakland or San Francisco and 3,000 to San Jose. The Bay is roughly 300 miles further than Los Angeles, which is half a driving day, and the approach across the Bay or up from the south adds traffic rather than miles. The Central Valley cities on the way, Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton and Sacramento, sit between the two figures and are reached up I-5 or SR 99.

Is Miami to California a solo or a team run?

Solo, unless the delivery window says otherwise. A solo driver covers it in five to six days at a legal day of about 550 to 600 miles. A team, two drivers sharing the cab so the truck keeps moving, covers it in about three, at the cost of a second driver. Most freight on this lane runs solo because a day or two of transit is rarely what the shipper is paying to avoid. Freight promised to a receiver on a fixed morning, or expensive enough that time on the road is a risk, is worth the team.

Can a 53 ft dry van deliver inside Los Angeles?

Yes, with the address settled first. Industrial addresses in the basin, the port area and the Inland Empire take a 53 ft trailer as a matter of course. Some older streets and small docks inside the city do not, and a truck that discovers that on arrival loses the appointment. Send the exact delivery address and what the dock looks like when you ask for the rate, and say whether the receiver books appointments, because in Los Angeles the window decides the day more than the miles do.

Can a load be picked up in California right after a delivery there?

Often, and that is worth arranging in advance rather than hoping for it. A California to Miami load is quoted as its own load on its own rate, not as a discount because a trailer happens to be empty nearby. If you have freight going both ways, send both sides at once and the pair can be planned as one turn, which is the cheapest version of the round trip for everybody.
