Coast to coast

Miami freight, coast to coast

Full truckload dry van out of the Miami warehouse to the rest of the country, and a loaded trailer back. The West Coast is the run we push hardest, because it is the longest and the one a shipper most needs a straight answer on: California, Nevada and Arizona, four to six days out. Texas, New York, Illinois and Georgia run shorter and turn faster.

Before it leaves Hialeah Gardens

One warehouse in Hialeah Gardens, over 50 dock doors

A full truckload is built here first, in Hialeah Gardens. Palletize, consolidate, wrap and load out of the warehouse, so what rolls out is one clean sealed trailer instead of a half-loaded guess. If you are shipping loose freight rather than a container, this is where it becomes a load.

Questions

Straight answers

Which states do the long-haul lanes cover?

The written lanes are California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, New York, Illinois and Georgia, which is where most of the freight leaving South Florida is actually headed. Full truckload runs to the rest of the 48 as well; those seven simply have enough traffic to be worth answering in detail. If your state is not on the list, it is still a lane, so send the pickup and the delivery and it gets quoted the same way.

How is a coast to coast lane priced?

As a lane and as a load, never by a published per-mile figure. The same distance costs differently depending on the weight, the trailer, whether either end drops or lives, how tight the delivery window is and what is available to load for the trip back. That is why no rates appear on this page. Send the two addresses, the windows, the weight and the commodity and you get a number for that load.

Do these lanes run in both directions?

Yes, and each direction is quoted as its own load on its own rate rather than as a cheap seat on a truck that happens to be going back. California, Texas, Illinois and New York all send freight to Florida constantly, and a load moving that way is planned from its own pickup window rather than squeezed around someone else's. If you have freight going both ways, send both sides and the turn gets planned together.

Can a long-haul lane run in a reefer or on a flatbed?

Yes. Most of this freight goes in a 53 ft dry van, which carries about 45,000 lb and closes at both ends. Temperature-controlled freight goes in a reefer, which carries about 44,000 lb in the same footprint because of the unit, its fuel and the insulation. Anything that loads from the side or the top, or stands taller than a van, goes on open deck. Say which at the request stage, not at the dock.

How long does it take to get freight from Miami to coast to coast?

1 to 6 days. That is the drive; the bigger variable is usually the terminal appointment at the Miami end, not the road.

Should my container go through to coast to coast, or be transloaded?

We price it both ways. Roughly: under 250 miles the container usually runs through, past that transloading tends to win because the empty goes back to the line instead of travelling.

Anything particular about the coast to coast lane?

Full truckload dry van out of the Miami warehouse to the rest of the country, and a loaded trailer back. The West Coast is the run we push hardest, because it is the longest and the one a shipper most needs a straight answer on: California, Nevada and Arizona, four to six days out. Texas, New York, Illinois and Georgia run shorter and turn faster.

Do you go beyond Florida?

Yes, all 48 states, generally transloaded to a trailer first.

What is the last free day?

The last day your container can sit inside the terminal before storage charges start. Miss it and demurrage begins accruing daily, which is why a pre-pull is almost always cheaper than waiting.

What is a pre-pull?

We collect the container from the terminal before you are ready for it and hold it on a yard. It stops demurrage running at terminal rates and it takes the pressure off your receiving schedule.

How do I get a rate?

Send the lane, the equipment, the container size and the port, and we come back with a number. Quotes and dispatch run 24 hours a day at quotes@dariaslogistics.com.

What does a drayage quote actually include?

The move itself, plus the accessorials people get surprised by later: chassis, pre-pull, per diem, demurrage, detention and storage. We would rather name them up front than add them to an invoice.
